Waste Solidification

As a company whose manufacturing process may involve a wide range of components and ingredients, there is a good chance you produce a fair amount of liquid waste. Finding ways to get rid of that waste in a safe and environmentally responsible manner is a challenge for many of today’s companies.

One of the best ways to treat liquid waste — solidification — is a process that ERC, an industry leader in liquid waste disposal, has a great deal of expertise in. If you think liquid or sludge waste disposal through solidification of waste could benefit your company, ERC is the company you will want to partner with.

How Does Solidification in Residual Waste Work?

Solidification and stabilization of residual waste is a process where we trap all the liquid waste and the contaminants in a solid block where it cannot leach out into the environment through groundwater or other methods. We mix the waste with water and a binding stabilizer, which allows it to harden into a solid block as it dries. The process may include substances like cement and asphalt.

What Is the Efficacy of Solidification in Residual Waste Management?

Solidification of liquid waste can be highly effective. In some cases, medical waste and even radioactive waste has been successfully dealt with through solidification. When you contact ERC with your liquid waste problem, we will help you decide if solidification is the right liquid waste removal method for you.

Can I Perform My Own Liquid Waste Solidification?

It is possible for companies to do their own liquid waste solidification, but it is usually much more efficient and cost-effective to hire ERC rather than set up your own waste solidification building. We already have the raw materials and equipment and know the best techniques for liquid waste solidification. We have years of expertise with waste solidification, so you don’t have to worry about your own untrained personnel possibly making an error that could lead to waste leakage or accidents.

Furthermore, at ERC we are a full turnkey solution that can solidify your waste and handle its final disposal, so you never have to worry about what to do with that waste once it is solidified. We take it off your hands and as soon as it leaves your facility you can forget about it.

By the Numbers:

  • ERC currently operates four, steel-lined in-ground concrete solidification pits with capacities of 6,000 gallons each.
  • Acceptable non-hazardous waste streams for solidification may be at or above 140 degrees Fahrenheit; it can vary from untreatable ink waste streams to heavy sludges and solids.
  • The ACT 90 permit is required for all inbound haulers.

After the non-hazardous waste is solidified, it’s shipped off-site to PA DEP approved landfills and waste-to-energy facilities.

All waste is sampled, profiled, and analyzed in accordance with ERC’s PA DEP permit prior to offloading.

In the ERC facility, outside haulers can rinse out trucks and trailers after unloading. Rinsing of haulers’ vessels is available upon request with both CSE and non-CSE washouts available. ERC requests that all rinse-outs are scheduled in advance.
